Berkeley Restaurant Guide List
Adagia Restaurant
Adagia Restaurant is located at 2700 Bancroft Way at the corner of College Avenue in Berkeley, California. Although it's right across from U.C. Berkeley, it's more of a restaurant for the faculty and staff than the students (in terms of price). They have a heated outdoor patio. You can also rent parts of the restaurant for private parties. The phone number is 510-647-2300. You can use this number for reservations or make reservations on line.
Hours: Lunch is served on Monday thru Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Dinner is served Monday thru Saturday from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Brunch is served on Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday dinner hours are 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Adagia serves California cuisine with Mediterranean flavor. They also use organic and sustainable ingredients. This Berkeley restaurant was voted "Best New Restaurant" in 2005 by the Contra Costa Times.

Afghan Oasis
Afghan Oasis is located inside the Shattuck Hotel at 2086 Allston Way near Shattuck Avenue in Berkeley, California. The Lucre Lounge is right next door. The office phone number is 510-841-3176. Call 510-499-2637 for reservations.
This is a large restaurant that can be used for weddings, corporate events and other parties.
Here's the Afghan Oasis website for more restaurant info, including their menu and pictures of their dishes. The site also has pics of the interior of this Berkeley restaurant.
Akasaka Sushi

Akasaka Sushi is located at 2650 Telegraph Avenue (across from Andronico's). The phone number is 510-841-0444.
This Japanese restaurant location has in interesting history. Over the last several years, this former I-HOP has been several different restaurants. It makes me wonder if the Feng Shui of this location is bad for a restaurant business. And as I have never eaten at this restaurant in it's current incarnation, the best thing I can say about it is that there is plentiful parking.
Check out the Akasaka website for more info. It has lots of great pictures of the food they serve.
Ajanta Indian Restaurant
Ajanta Indian restaurant is located at 1888 Solano Avenue in Berkeley. The phone number is 510-526-4373.
This is a yummy Indian restaurant! It was voted "Best Indian Restaurant" in the Bay Area by: Zagat, San Francisco Focus Magazine, Bay Area Restaurant Guide, and East Bay Express. It's also great that they are "Green Certified" and use free range, hormone- and antibiotic-free meats and sustainable seafood.
Reservations are recommended, especially for weekends. You can also get home delivery by calling 510-644-3331.
Check out the Ajanta website to see the Ajanta lunch and dinner menus.
Alohana Hawaiian Grill

Alohana Hawaiian Grill is located at 2216 Shattuck Avenue in Berkeley, California. The phone number is 510-845-2116. You can dine in, take out and they even do catering. Their official website is ALOHANABBQ.COM

This Berkeley restaurant is a franchise and you get info about the franchise on their restaurant website.
Au Coquelet Restaurant and Coffee Shop
Click on the menus to enlarge.
Au Coquelet is located at 2000 University at the corner of Milvia. It's about a seven minute walk from the downtown Berkeley BART station. Parking can be a challenge, but not impossible.
It's one of the very few restaurants in Berkeley that is open late. It's open until 1 a.m. on weekdays and 1:30 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. It's a great place to go after a play at the Berkeley Repertory Theater and several downtown movie theaters.
There are two parts to the restaurant. The front is more of a coffee shop and the back is a more typical restaurant, although there are no servers to take your order. You have to place your order at the cashier.
They have daily specials. The food is so-so, but the great thing is that you can sit in the coffee shop part for hours. There's no internet access or outlets for customers, but lots of meeting are held here. It can get a little noisy around lunch time as it's also close to Berkeley High School.
The desserts are very good! The Chocolate Mousse is my favorite.
This is one of my favorite places in the Berkeley Restaurant Guide because of the desserts and the fact that you can hang out with friends for a long time in the coffee shop portion of the restaurant.
Baja Fresh Mexican Grill
Baja Fresh Mexican Grill is located in downtown Berkeley, California at 2237 Shattuck Avenue at the corner of Kittredge. It's down the block from the California Theater, so it's a great place to grab a bite before a show. The phone number is 510-548-4444.
Although this is a chain/franchise Mexican restaurant, it's very good. Everything really is fresh; they cook your food on the spot. And it's inexpensive.
The online Baja Fresh menu doesn't show the prices since the menu is for the whole country, but you can see the food items they offer. I can usually get a very filling lunch for less than $5 (without a drink). They also have a nice little salsa bar.
This is one of my favorites in the Berkeley Restaurant Guide because the food is good, fresh and inexpensive, and the service is quick.
Bangkok Thai Cuisine
Bangkok Thai Cuisine is located at 1459 University Avenue (between Sacramento and Acton Streets) in Berkley, California. The phone number is 510-848-6483.
Restaurant hours are:
Monday thru Saturday:
Lunch: 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Dinner: 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Sunday: 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
They also have a location at the Emeryville Public Market (this is my first choice of all the restaurants when I eat at the Market).
The Bangkok Thai restaurant on University is a good Thai restaurant, not great, but good. I usually judge a Thai restaurant by their Pad Thai. The Pad Thai here is just so-so. Although Pad Thai is my favorite Thai dish, I always order other dishes instead. I really like the Tofu Curry dish.
Visit the Bangkok Thai Cuisine website to see their full menu for both the Berkeley and the Emeryville locations.
Barclay's Restaurant & Pub
Barclay's Restaurant & Pub is located at 5940 College Avenue in Oakland, California. The phone number is 510-654-1650. Although this isn't a Berkeley restaurant, they're on the Berkeley/Oakland border, so I've included them in this Berkeley Restaurant Guide. Plus, they have one of the best selections of beer in the East Bay.
They are open Monday thru Friday from 11:00 a.m. to midnight. Saturday and Sunday brunches start at 10:00 a.m. They close at midnight on weekends, too. The kitchen closes at 11:00 p.m.
Here's the Barclay menu.
