Udupi Palace Vegetarian Indian Cuisine is located at 1901 University Avenue at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. The phone number is 510-843-6600. They're open seven days a week from 11:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

If you're not familiar with South Indian food, you may have a little bit of trouble ordering the different specials they have every day. You can ask, but the waiters aren't always very descriptive. They'll tell you the names of the specials, but without offering much more info.

The dishes are delicious, but may be too spicy for "light-weights."

This place is great for vegetarians, because even though you may not know what you're eating, you can be sure that it's all vegetarian.

Although the food is good, it's not a great place for conversation as the acoustics seem to make it always loud in this Berkeley Indian restaurant. When it first opened, it was darker and a bit more romantic. Now it's brightly lit and seems to be a (almost) great family spot.
